<?null /* Punk rockers are some of the worst conformists I've ever known. Because of their elitist pro-obscurity attitude, they contradict their own ethics. ... I'm not talking about the old days, nor am I speaking of the few true punk rock kids left. I'm talking about the new wave of kids calling themselves punks (punx?). These teenagers dress themselves in the most unoriginal uniforms, purposefully tearing and dirtying patches to attain the "on-the-road" look. They've completely modeled their clothes after the true kids hitchhiking across the country. These annoying bastards spend hours dying and solidifying their hair into the most outlandish, "look at me!" shapes. The common idea is, the more obscure or noticeable their appearance, the more peer respect will be gained. Yet, forsaking all individuality, they prance around as if re-enacting a scene from cult classic films such as Sid & Nancy (the story of punk rock legend Sid Vicious and his troubled girlfriend Nancy Spungen), SLC Punk (movie-adaptation of fairly well-done comic book about two punk kids in Salt Lake City coming of age), Suburbia (1980's tale of a gang of kids rejected by their families and society as a whole banding together), and more. The true idea behind the Punk Movement and punk rock is an _expression_ of the self without care or even acknowledgment of the judgmental opinions of others. This was an idea that stood strong and pure for decades. The modern perversity of this by the new movement is something I find sickeningly disgusting. Punk is not about a fashion, trend, or even what obscure bands a person listens to. It is neither a contest, nor a fashion show. It truly irritates me to see these children perverting such a fundamental concept. I have no taste for these posers.
