Yes. Do you have any ideas? We need a place that doesn’t charge.

Anyway, where ever you live in the valley it’ll be about a two hour trip more
or less.

Has anyone thought of finding a more central location? I for one don't enjoy a
two hour valley tour.

Oh I agree, we did have people coming from Indio and Coachella and Cat City.

If we could get some radio PR and have like a welcoming or new member something
that would be good if they would come.

There just doesn’t seem to be much motivation.

Contrary to popular belief Palm Springs isn't the only community out here We
need to get out of that mindset and look at the unserved and under served
people in other communities.

Currently we have about $1300 more or less in our account thanks to Palm
Springs Lions, and a generous donor of our chapter.

At this time I wouldn’t feel comfortable asking PS Lions to give any more, but
the date festival idea is a really good one.

I’m not sure why the blind community doesn’t want to do something else in the
community besides Braille. Seems like you’d want to find your nich in the
community whether it’s volunteering, going to school, having fun or a hobby or
something.

As you incorporate in to the sighted community to do something with them,
sometimes it takes a little time for people to be comfortable. I remember when
I started going to an organization in S.D. it took almost a year for me to make
friends but I kept persisting.

I find here that most of the sighted community really doesn’t know about our
world but most want to know and have been nice or at least cordial. For those
who aren’t, I just go on my merry way.

Some of these ideas like bake sales, yard sales etc. are good ideas but not
necessarily blind friendly enough to get membership participation. One idea
for next year is to get involved in the advanced sales of Date Festival
tickets. Many churches and other non profit organizations do this and we would
get a percentage of each ticket we sell. We all have friends and neighbors
that we could sell these tickets to. Lions clubs do not fund raise although
they do contribute to other organizations. Developing a proper brochure and
teams of people from each community to speak to their local lions clubs would
be a good start. Also, speaking to other service organizations couldn't hurt.

We all have different contacts, and different resources in our communities we
just need to turn off the tv and get out and make things happen.

We need both blind and sighted members to make this all work.

Thank you.

Hello,

We have had lots of neat fund raising ideas, but none of them seemed to pan out.

First of all, I was willing to donate time and goods for a bake sale, but then
there are the legalities of it all. You would need to get a permit to sell
baked goods on certain locations or you'd get a big fine or get in trouble
with the health department. We had also thought of doing a dance, but the room
we were going to rent didn't turn out to have what we were looking for. It's
sad that the membership is dwindling
, but we need to just move forward with what we have.

We have stepped out in faith, and participated in white cane safety day, and
have also even considered doing a car wash. Again, these have been pretty
wonderful ways of trying to raise money, but we need to get more people to help
participate. We've also been trying to merge with the Lion's club, so they
might be able to partner with us on some events. That would really be a great
help. We've done all we could in advertizing to the blind community out here
through the Braille Institute, and it looks like we've gotten as many blind
members from there as we could. I found out about CCB through a couple friends
of ours who used to live in the area, so I think it's really more of a matter
of stepping into the community and getting the word out. Besides, most of the
people who attend braille institute are not from this area. I'd like to be able
to get out more in the community. Not only should we be raising money, but
increasing the membership. The more we have, the more talents we'll see. It
will allow us to shine more, and I really believe that could happen. I just
need to see a few more people stepping up and volunteering here, and I'm not
just talking about Linda and Dennis. There are other members of the group who
can certainly come up with ideas and not just say them, but do their part in
helping make these ideas more of a reality.

I believe we just need to put our heads together. We can, and will succede, but
we have to go out there and give it our best shot first.

Take care, and I hope to see you guys at the meeting on Friday.
Be well and God bless,

Melissa Roe

Those are great goals.

The acb convention will be held in Colombus Ohio this year. When we went in
2010, no one had ever attended a convention and we had a driver through GDD.
Last year we had classes in session at the school so no one drove or went to
the convention. These are great gals, and we do need more members to be able to
participate. Just have to remember that we are at all different levels of
education and ability.

We had all kinds of ideas for fundraising but couldn’t get them off the ground.

While president, I didn’t get the group to involved at a state level because we
have our own deep issues here in the valley and everyone was virtually new to
the CCB and their commitment to the organization.

I wense that you have a driving personality and hopefully we can move forward
become very strong like some of the other chapters and affiliates.

Here are a couple of fund raising goals I believe are achievable for our
organization.

1. Raise enough money to send two delegates from our chapter to the Fall
convention in San Diego Without having exact numbers, I believe the cost
would be around $1000.00.

2. Sending two delegates to the national convention in 2014. I don't know
what the cost would be for this, but I will throw out a figure of around
$2500.00.

I propose we form a fund raising committee to come up with proposals for how we
can achieve these goals, with all members participating in the fund raising
activities selected by this committee and voted on by the general membership.

The goal here is to get membership participation, and for all of us to take
ownership of what this organization is to become.

We need to become more active in our communities to raise awareness of our
organization, and to educate the general public about visually impaired
persons.

Like I said in my previous post, two people can't do it all, but collectively
we can make a difference.
