Hello to all CCB members and beyond: As you know, the second annual Mutt Strut fundraiser is again getting closer and closer to reality. The date is Saturday, September 8, 2012, from 8 a.m. to about 1 p.m., and we’ve added a new region this year, San Francisco. If you wish to set up a running or walking team with or without a dog, you can do so on line at www.firstgiving.com/CaliforniaCounciloftheBlind Or to register by phone call 800-221-6359. For additional information contact one of the following: Sacramento- Jeff Thom at (916) 995-3967 San Francisco- Peter Pardini at (415) 990-9202 Remember, CCB is our organization, and its continued success in helping persons who are blind throughout California depends on our strong efforts to make this fundraiser something to bark about. No whining, just a bunch of wagging dollars to maintain and improve our services. Reach out beyond CCB members and think outside the dog house/box. From Mary Beth Randall: Hello to the CCB family, I was so please to know just how many of you cared about how my dad was doing after his heart attack late in June. He is recovering nicely at home now even though he has been having to learn what new limitations he has since the heart attack. My dad is in great spirits and would now love to hear from folks who wish to contact him by phone or e-mail. His e-mail address is acgil2006@xxxxxxxxx and if you wish to have Al's phone number please contact me (off list) and I will give you his phone number. Before the heart attack our family was planning two parties for him to celebrate his turning 80 this year. Both parties are still happening now that the doctors have said he can travel. I am truly amazed and thankful to the Lord that he is able to do this so quickly after the heart attack. Nothing stops Al Gil as many of you know. So next week our family will be having a gathering in Texas and Oklahoma then at the end of September there will be a gathering here in Fowler, CA right near Fresno where my dad was born. Below is information about the party for anyone who would like to share a story about my dad that you would like to be included for the party which will be read there. Due to our already climbing numbers I wish I could invite our whole CCB family to come to the party but I do hope your well wishes will be there to make my dad's party the very best it can be. It will be held on September 29th here in Fowler, CA as I said above. If you have a story you wish to share please either send me something written in an e-mail message to creature_girl@xxxxxxxxxxx or you can send something on tape that we can play the day of the party. The sooner I have things the easier it will be to get everything put together. My mailing address for cassettes is Mary Beth Randall, 4733 N. Cedar Ave. #110, Fresno, CA 93726. I would love the stories to be fun memories of my dad that everyone will enjoy. Again our family has appreciated all the support and love that you all have given in the past weeks. Thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts. Would you like to go to the fall CCB conference and convention as well as attend the November 1st, 2012 San Diego Chargers vs. the Kansas City Chiefs football game? Mona Craig is organizing, on her own, a small group of Southern Californians who want to go to the conference and convention as well as the football game. Some of the details are: *$50 transportation fee which would include round trip from Downey and Hawaiian Gardens to the San Diego Marriott Del Mar Hotel site of the conference and convention as well as transportation between the hotel and the football stadium *The group would leave on November 1st and return on November 4th from the starting points which are Downey and Hawaiian Gardens *Depending on where the group decides to sit in the stadium, the cost of single tickets are $54.00 to $98.00. *The group will consist of 6 individuals and there are 4 vacancies at this time. If you are interested contact Mona at (323) 903-7458. Mona's trip is not a CCB conference and convention event and all details/arrangements will be worked out between you and Mona. From Larry Hall, Redwood Empire Council Chapter President: Beryl Brown had a mild heart attack and low blood pressure on or about July 25th. She is presently at Summerfield, a rehab facility, for about 2 to 3 weeks. She can be reached at her room phone number 707 921-2353, or on her cell phone 866-718-4925. From CCB President, Donna Pomerantz: We have passed the mid mark of August and boy is it hot here in Pasadena! I am so thankful my air conditioning works at the moment (knock on wood). Jeff continues to represent us as a part of the California Collaborative group and as always Dual Eligible's and IHSS are on the front burner. We are at the table and access to information in accessible timely alternate formats is one of many issues that is brought before the group as well as others. We are also doing continued work with the Department of Rehabilitation and are pleased with the recent choices for senior staff positions. We don't know yet, but it is my hope that you may be able to meet some of them at our Fall Conference and Convention. We are less than a month away from the Mutt Strut and I am so excited about the plans our regions have been sharing with me. Way to go! Even if you are not able to attend in person, you can always lend your support to one of our CCB Family who will be "strutting' their stuff" with dog or white cane by their side! Remember, it is not too late to lend your support or create your own fundraising page if you are going to attend. In closing, please take note of the two calls I have scheduled prior to our Conference and Convention. All those details are in your Summer Blind Californian. Hope to hear many of our CCB Family members on those calls.
