Hi everyone, I have not sent an email to the group for a few weeks. I guess the event for the next week or so for us in Britain is the Pope visiting. This gives me a good excuse to seek out debates about the pope, Catholicism etc and add them to the list http://www.debatewise.info/index.php/tasks/editing-tasks A couple of the ones I have down for references I have some links in the notes of the task as they were rapid response team debates so they will be the links I gave them. I have also added this to the forum: http://debatewise.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3 <http://debatewise.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25> &t=25 A short list of the tasks I added: Condensing: http://debatewise.org/debates/1359-religion-in-itself-is-a-purely-positive-f orce-in-the-world some very long arguments, can they be shortened? Merging debates on pope Benedict http://debatewise.org/debates/1813-pope-benedict-should-resign http://debatewise.org/debates/1824-pope-benedict-should-resign not much in this one but a more detailed intro Introduction: http://debatewise.org/debates/11-the-religious-suffer-from-intellectual-lazi ness does not sufficiently explain the debate or any terms in the title Substantiation: http://debatewise.org/debates/1189-does-the-pope-deserve-a-warm-welcome-to-t he-uk some short points could do with more explanation or examples References: http://debatewise.org/debates/1026-no-religion-should-receive-monetary-suppo rt-from-any-government References: http://debatewise.org/debates/1646-religious-freedom-should-come-before-equa lity http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/feb/01/pope-condemns-british-equality-b ill http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2010/feb/01/pope-benedict-equ ality-legislation http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/telegraph-view/7131035/The-Pope-Labour-an d-religious-freedom.html References: http://debatewise.org/debates/1851-the-catholic-church-needs-reform The latest scandal that implicates the pope as having had a role in covering up child abuse is just the latest in a long line of abuses. Much of the problem lies both in the Church's hard line positions and its centralisation of control. The Catholic Church was not always the centralised controlling church it is today. Allowing much more localisation would mean that crises would not go right to the top and more liberal areas can allow reforms and a different emphasis from the conservative centre. http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2010/04/05 /rescue_catholicism_from_vatican/ http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2010/mar/30/pontiff-power-bur eaucracy-catholic-church Yes points: http://debatewise.org/debates/1412-religion-is-not-necessary Also introduction needs improving If you have any questions on any of these ask on the forum! http://debatewise.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3 <http://debatewise.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25> &t=25 Alex
