combination of scholarships, academic advising, and career coaching, is
hosting a *LinkedIn and personal branding workshop* on Wednesday, Sept. 28
from 5 to 6 pm (scholars and alumni of the program will join the call at
4:30 pm).

CityTutor DC

a coalition of 50+ members that connect schools, community-based
organizations, civic partners and other stakeholders to accelerate learning
for DC students through tutoring, is hosting a *high-impact tutor
orientation/skills training*, also on Wednesday, for its new tutoring
signups. The session will start at 5:30 pm.

*350+ Volunteer Signups in 2 Weekends: Capping a Very Busy Month! *
Peak festival season saw DCTMI hitting the streets hard. We signed up
hundreds of tutoring and mentoring volunteers at events like the H Street
Festival, Celebrate Petworth, and NEXTfest. Add in DCTMI’s regular presence
at area farmers markets and you get a very busy month for the outreach
team. Over the last two weekends, we’ve signed up over 350 people, bringing
the tally for the month to nearly 450. Our goal is to sign up 1000 tutors
and mentors between August and the end of October. If you know someone
interested in becoming a tutor or mentor, sign them up to volunteer

This Saturday, we round out the docket of major fall outdoor festivals
with Open
Streets Georgia Ave.

which will take place from 9 am to 3 pm. The avenue will be closed to motor
vehicle traffic between Missouri Ave. and Barry Place.

Channel 7 (WJLA) News recently interviewed DCTMI Director Tom Pollak and
Northstar Tutoring volunteer Johanna Schneider for a piece about combatting
pandemic-era learning loss. The story highlighted that teachers can’t do it
alone; it will take thousands of community members working with vulnerable
young people an hour or two a week to make a difference.
The report pointed to DCTMI’s goal of recruiting thousands of volunteers
for local programs and promoted our virtual Mentor Recruitment Fair on
Sept. 14.
