Subject: Save the Deanwood Kiosk - Community Meeting Saturday April 10

Dear neighbors,
The Friends of Deanwood Library recently received word from Commissioner
Rebecca Morris (ANC 7D-06) who has been investigating this with the city,
that there are plans to tear down and remove the Deanwood Library Kiosk,
located at Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave. and Minnesota Ave. NE. This is the
first time we are hearing of these plans, which did not involve community
input.
Not only is the Deanwood Library kiosk a historic treasure

but also our community has been envisioning for years ways to activate this
space for the benefit of the community. In collaboration with our wider
community, the Friends of Deanwood Library has been in conversation with
DGS, DCPL, and Councilmember Gray's office to fix the kiosk (which was hit
by a car <https://twitter.com/richmanmax/status/1344041380453244930?s=20>
months
ago) and use it for community purposes. The Friends of Deanwood Library
intends to advocate during the upcoming budget hearings for funding to fix
this kiosk.
We have heard from many neighbors over the past couple of years wondering
about the kiosk, and with ideas for its use. Please join us on Saturday,
April 10 at 10 am for a community meeting to organize to save the Deanwood
Library Kiosk
