Construction Update

*New Carrollton, Landover and Cheverly*
- *Since the last update, *construction crews installed ceiling tiles in
the pedestrian bridge at Cheverly, added glass screens and roofing to the
new platform shelters, installed new LED lighting on the platform edge and
framed the new passenger information display screens.
- *5,661 ft of new fire standpipes are being installed across the
stations. *This new layout is more accessible for firefighters,
increasing fire safety at the stations in an emergency.
- *Up next: *construction crews will begin testing electrical equipment,
installing 191 digital signage and screens in the stations and cleaning the
stations prior to reopening.

*Deanwood, Minnesota Ave and Bridge Repairs*
- *Construction crews continue to install ceiling panels, replace the
exterior coverings to modernize the elevators, upgrade bathrooms and
install station signage. *Crews are adding LED lighting on top of the
pylons, constructing the area of safe dispersal and installing surveillance
systems.
- *Next: *crews will install granite benches in the stainless-steel
platform shelters, skylights in the canopies above the platforms and new
digital display screens in the mezzanines.
- *On the bridges, *construction crews are completing repairs for a
safer Metro ride for customers. At New Carrollton, jacks are being used to
raise the bridge up a maximum of two inches, allowing crews to add steel
and replace the bearings, before the lowering the bridge to the original
height.

A Closer Look: Preparing for Capital Projects
Capital projects require planning and scheduling years before work begins,
followed by ongoing coordination among the construction team, rail and bus
operations and other project partners inside and outside of Metro. This
approach supports our investment in regional transit infrastructure and
commitment to safely executing projects. While we rebuild platforms, we are
also reconstructing bus garages, planning for major Blue and Yellow Line
construction and installing new escalators, among other projects.
