*Inaugural Constance Thompson Memorial Scholarship*
High school graduation is a huge milestone for our students and their
families. Years of hard work go into the moment seniors walk across the
stage, diploma in hand. That moment is a celebration for the student and
their village.
My family and Ward 7 community was that village for me and showed me how to
be that village for others. When I left for college, it was my village
elder, my grandmother, who helped purchase my books. She passed this time
last year, but I carry her spirit with me. In her memory and with my
family's blessing, I am partnering with the William O Lockridge Foundation
to support 10 seniors (1 at each Ward 7 high school) with a scholarship for
books and other educational needs in this next step of their academic
journey.
To increase our collective impact, I am asking for your help. Our goal is
to raise $2500 and we will match the first $2500 raised.

*SBOE Updates*
At the May Public Meeting, we heard from OSSE on proposed updates to the
attendance policy and school report cards. We were also joined by a panel
adding perspective on striking the balance between attendance policy
addressing the challenges students have and providing accountability for
schools. The recommends include changing the 80/20 rule and establishing
regulations for virtual learning.
At our working session on Wednesday June 1st, the board heard updates from
OSSE on suggested revisions to the attendance policy,

*Budget Season*
A few budget highlights that benefit our youngest Ward 7 Residents:
- An additional $6.4 million for School-Based Mental Health
- $41.6 million for schools with an At-Risk population greater than 40%
in addition to funding for schools with an At-Risk population greater than
70%. These funds enable school communities and principals to utilize in a
way that best supports their students
- 5.87% increase to the UPSFF for student supports at every level of
learning
- $6 million to support a school nurse in every school building
- $1.2 million for literacy instruction for teachers
- $120,000 to establish a citywide committee on literacy
- $15.3 million for out of school time programs
- $20 million for a new River Terrace Recreation Center
- $9 million for a Second Sheet of Ice at the Fort Dupont Ice Arena
- $300,000 for Birth to Three Healthy Steps
- $24 million for Deanwood Library
- $2.3 million for the Jackie Robinson Field next to Kimball Elementary

*News You Can Use*
DC has COVID Centers, including one in Ward 7.
At the District's COVID Centers, individuals will have access to
vaccinations, boosters, and take-home rapid antigen tests as well as a new
walk-up testing opportunity which will allow residents to administer and
register a PCR test themselves.
