*2nd Annual Ward 7 Back to School Giveaway*
Join me on August 20th from 11am until 2pm for the 2nd Annual Ward 7 Back
to School Giveaway. We will be giving away 1,500 bookbags and school
supplies.

DC Health will be onsite providing both COVID immunizations and school age
vaccines.

This event is in partnership with Council Member Gray's office, East River
Family Strengthen Collaborative, Councilmember Henderson's Office,
Councilmember Bonds', Office, Councilmember Robert White's Office, Marshall
Heights Community Development Organization, District of Columbia Public
Schools, KIPP DC, Friendship Public Charter, Rocketship Schools, DC Prep,
Washington Literacy Center, DC Public Charter School Board, The Washington
Teachers' Union, The Washington Literacy Council, The Fort Dupont Civic
Association, Marshall Heights Civic Association, The Mission Continues, MPD
6D, The East River Dog Park Group, the Ward 7 Education Council, and For
the Love of Children.

*SBOE Updates*

At the July Public Meeting, I voted in support of and the board passed the
following resolutions:

   - An amendment to the ESSA Accountability framework removing stars from
   school report cards and adding an emphasis on growth.
   - Working with OSSE to establish a regular schedule for engagement
   around improvements to our framework.
   - Updates to the attendance policy that replace the 80/20 rule with a
   60/40 rule and for the first time establishing guidance for virtual
   learning.
   - A resolution calling on improved data transparency in sexual assault
   reporting in schools
   - Recognizing our Student Advisory Committee members for their service

In August the board will have a working session but will not have a public
meeting. At this meeting we will will begin budget discussions regarding
the allocation of funds for Fiscal Year 2024 and associated enhancement
requests.

Vaccination Requirements by Age

*COVID-19 Vaccines Now Available for Children 6 months and Older and
Moderna Vaccine Available for Children and Adolescents 6-17 Years Old*

DC Health announces that COVID-19 vaccines for children 6 months to 4 years
old are now available along with the Moderna vaccine for children and
adolescents 6-17 years old.

The pediatric vaccine (for children 6 months to 4 years old) is available
as either a 3-dose Pfizer or 2-dose Moderna vaccine. The two doses of the
Moderna vaccine are administered four weeks apart, while the first two
doses of the Pfizer vaccine are administered three weeks apart with the
third dose given eight weeks after the second dose. For example, if your
child is 6 months to 4 years old and is vaccinated with the Moderna vaccine
on June 30, they will receive their second and final dose on July 28. If
your child is given the Pfizer vaccine on June 30, they will receive their
second dose on July 21 and their third and final dose on September 15.

The Moderna vaccine for children and adolescents 6-17 years old is a 2-dose
vaccine administered four weeks apart. For example, someone receiving this
vaccine on June 30 will receive their second and final dose on July 28.

Both pediatric vaccines and the Moderna vaccines for 6-17 are available at
District COVID Centers, health clinics, and doctors’ offices. These
vaccines are also available at select pharmacies, with the pediatric
vaccines available only for children three and up.
