*Welcome and Welcome Back to School Year 2021-2022!*
*Weeee'rrreee baaa-aaacck!!!* The staff and scholars are excited to be back
in the building ready to resume in person learning. On the first day of
school we had a huge welcoming committee that included many members of two
local churches, a local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and the Kappa
Alpha Psi fraternity. Pastor Delonte of our own Peace Fellowship Church.
More than 270 scholars made it to school on time on Day One.

questions, and share ideas to help make IDEA a truly great school
- Join IDEA committees to help shape the future of our school
- Encourage scholars to take advantage of opportunities, such as our
Twilight Academy, which will launch in the second quarter
- Ensure scholars are doing their work and check on their progress using

*COVID Testing Begins Next Week*
On Thursday, Sept 7, will test our first group of scholars and staff for
the COVID-19 virus, as mandated by Mayor Bowser. (All schools in the city
must start testing next week.) Thirty scholars will be selected at random. This

*Health & Safety in School*
Parents, please help our team reinforce our mask policy. Masks will be worn
by all scholars while in the learning environment. Masks should cover
scholars’ noses and mouths.
*Attendance*
We have begun the year the way we mean to continue - with strong
attendance. EIGHTY-SIX percent of our scholars attended school on the very
first day, bright and energetic and ready to learn. On Day Two we revised
the entry process to allow the scholars to move into the building more
quickly. This year we are unable to allow them into the building early
because soon we will not have the cafeteria to hold scholars in.
Attendance is critical to learning! Please be sure your scholar eats well
and gets enough sleep to support their learning goals. Perfect attendance
awards and celebrations begin in September this year. Last year, scholars
who had perfect attendance for the year earned $250 at the end of the year
in Kazoo points.

secured by emailing Mr. Romero.
*Career Technical Education/Dual Enrollment*
The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will be holding
an information session on DC Dual Enrollment, Friday September 10th, from 3
to 4pm. Scholars and parents are welcome to attend.

be holding an info session after school on Friday, 9/10 for scholars to

*Are You Looking for Your Referral Bonus??*
Anyone who refers a scholar to IDEA can earn a $250 referral bonus. You
should have your money in time for the holidays! The scholar(s) that you
referred must enroll and be on our roster on October 5 in order for you to
earn the referral bonus. Bonuses are not paid out any earlier than
December, because our entire audit process, conducted by lawyers hired by
DC to make sure all scholars are DC residents, will not conclude until
after Thanksgiving. We will endeavor to process referral bonuses as quickly
as possible as soon as our audit results are in.
*Parent/Guardian Town Hall Meetings Have Resumed — Join Us!*
Last year the pandemic caused us to move parent/guardian meetings to a
virtual format using Zoom. This turned out to be a great success. Last
year, fifteen to twenty percent of our parents and guardians and many of
our scholars regularly attended the town hall meetings. In these meetings,
parents, guardians and scholars receive all sorts of information about
things that are going on in school, just like in an old-school "parent
meeting." Many staff join the calls and many important topics are covered.
The town hall meetings are also excellent opportunities for parents,
guardians and scholars to ask questions and voice whatever concerns they
many have. The next town hall meeting will be held on Thursday, September

*Early Dismissal for Seniors*
At IDEA, early dismissal is a privilege granted to seniors who have
completed all graduation requirements. In order to receive this
opportunity, seniors must provide proof of a job, internship or community
service. All seniors who are eligible this year have been granted a
two-week temporary dismissal. To make this dismissal official, seniors must

How to Purchase More Uniform Shirts
If you would like to purchase more uniform shirts, please go to the website
to "Pay Online" at the bottom of the main page. Follow the directions there
to pay with a debit card or credit card. Scholars may pick up purchased
shirts in the main office.

*Food Services*
This year, due to the unavailability of our cafeteria, we do not have
processes in place for our scholars to heat up food nor for them to have
access to hot water. If food is sent with scholars for lunch, please do not
send Cup of Noodles and other things that require either hot water or
microwaving. Free lunches are available for all scholars every day. Grab &
Go bags are available to all scholars every morning as they enter the
building and move to their Pathways classrooms.
