*EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT*
*On Wednesday, August 31st, the Health Alliance Network along with our
partners, will sponsor "An Opioid Overdose Awareness Day Program and
Community Candlelight Vigil." This event will take place at Ward 8's THE
ARC @ The Black Box Theater, 1901 Mississippi Ave SE. The event will begin
at 5:30 pm with FREE Covid vaccines available to children 5 years old to
Adults of all ages. Free gift cards of $50 given to all who are
vaccinated.*
*Our great partners in this endeavor are: United Medical Center and Family
Medical Counseling Services (FMCS) - both providing vaccines, Total Family
Care Coalition (TFCC), Live Long DC (LLDC), Oxford House, R-1 Learning,
PIW, Howard University, Whitman-Walker Health, ANC 8B, ANC 8D, ANC 8E, the
Ward 7&8 DC Prevention Center, DCRAC, MBI Health and The Medi (providing
gift cards). *
*We will also show the 14 minute movie clip from the movie "Tipping the
Pain Scale," a powerful statement on substance use disorder and RECOVERY. *
*Following the Black Box program, we will hold a Community Candlelight
Vigil outside at the Amphitheater honoring those that have fallen victim to
the Opioid Crisis. This will be dedicated to Jayla McBroom, daughter of
Ward 8 Commissioner Kiki McBroom, who passed last summer from Opioids.*
*Our featured speakers for the program and candlelight Vigil include Dr.
Barbara Bazron, Director, DC Dept of Behavioral Health, Ward 8 Commissioner
Kiki McBroom, and the voices of recovery such as Rhonda L. Johnson, Larry
Bing, James Perry, the women of Oxford House and many others!*

My name is Letrice Weaver, and I am the Development Manager for BEST Kids,
Inc. We are members of the NAACP Collaborative and our mission is to
empower youth in foster care to build better futures. BEST Kids serves
nearly 100
black and brown youth ages 6-21 in Washington DC’s foster care system, and
seeks to improve outcomes for our youth through long-term and intentional
mentoring and exposing them to valuable life skills, healthy relationships,
and empowerment for a better future.
We would like to invite you to join us for *our 10th Annual Superhero 5K
and Fun Run on October 15, 2022 taking place at Hains Point DC. **We want

The District of Columbia - Recovery Advocacy Project (DC-RAP) is organizing
