Wrapping up 2022!!!
Hello all
Hope everyone is well. Wanted to send out a huge thanks to everyone who
volunteered and participated with the DPR communal farm program and the
weekly veggie giveaways this year. We had an incredible growing year and
could not have done it with out so many amazing people making happen.
Thank you so much!!!!
Although last week was the last veggie giveaway we still have some open
farm hours this week at Lederer Gardens where people can volunteer and/or
self-harvest. See details below along with some end of the year
highlights.

In addition to the produce given away the three communal farms hosted over
50 programs in 2022 ranging from food cooking demonstrations, garden
classes, herbal medicine making, flower arranging workshops, honey
harvesting, mushroom classes, composting, cider pressing, etc. A huge
thanks to all our amazing teachers!!
Also wanted to give a special shout out to Jucain our Resident Chef at
Lederer Gardens. For the majority of our 30 giveaways at Lederer Gardens
this year Jucain prepared AMAZING multi-course meals with lots of
ingredients coming from the farm. These meals not only educated people on
lots of delicious ideas with what to do with the veggies we give away but
really created a community around sharing food and experiences at Lederer.

*Last Farm Open Hours This Week*
*(Volunteer and/or Self-Harvest)*
Edgewood and Powell farms are all set for the winter but we still have lots
to do at Lederer this week to get the site ready for winter. Also there's
still lots of kale, collards, chard, mustard, root crops, and herbs at
Lederer to self-harvest during these open farm hours. Feel free to come
volunteer and/or self-harvest (can offer harvesting assistance if needed
too) during our farm open hours this week. Times and work tasks stated
below:
Monday - Lederer Gardens - 10-2pm
- We'll be working on organizing the greenhouse, turning the farm shed
into a future toolshare, and winter prepping the garden beds
Wednesday - Lederer Gardens - 10-2pm

*If possible please email if you're interested in volunteering or
self-harvesting in case there's changes to the schedule or if we need to
add more open hours to wrap everything up. But feel free to come even if
you haven't emailed us too. Thanks!!!*

*2023 Growing Season*
After this week we'll be shutting down the farms for the rest of December
and January while we plan and prepared for the next growing season. But
keep an eye out for future volunteer and harvesting opportunities starting
sometime in February 2023. We'll announce these opportunities once they're
ready over the DPR Communal Farm Weekly Email Update. If you know anyone
who would like to receive these email updates let us know. A "general and
tentative" 2023 schedule is below.

- Starting and maintaining seedlings in greenhouse
- Propagating perennial fruits and herb plants in Greenhouse
- Pruning fruit trees, bushes, and vines

Keep an eye out for a farm survey coming soon on how we can make 2023 even
better. But also feel free to reach out with any feedback (what to grow,
how to better organize giveaways, equipment to buy, program requests, etc.)
anytime too. We're very grateful for all feedback and opportunities to
make this experience better.
