In January 2021, Mayor Muriel Bowser introduced the Reopen Washington DC
Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration Amendment Act of
2021<https://lims.dccouncil.us/Legislation/B24-0044>. Included are several
provisions focused on boosting the District’s economic recovery following the
coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency and expanding essential services
and new consumer options across the District.
Of particular note is the provision aimed at addressing food deserts by
creating a new alcohol license class to incentivize new full-service grocery
stores of at least 8,000 square feet to open in Wards 7 and 8.
In an effort to solicit feedback on the access to healthy food provisions and
others included in the Act, ABRA is hosting two (2) virtual information
sessions specifically for Ward 7 and 8 ANC commissioners on Tuesday, July 20 at
10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Registration is required:
