Subject: Building Futures recruiting for the January 2022 class

Hello & Happy New Year! I'd appreciate your help in identifying candidates for
the Winter Building Futures class.  A flyer is attached.

Overview: The Building Futures Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Training program
is a free class that connects low-income women and men ages 20+ with
family-sustaining jobs in the construction industry and related occupations.
Program Design: Accepted students attend the month-long, pre-apprenticeship
class in the Deanwood neighborhood from 9am - 2pm daily (plus two Saturday
sessions) with a curriculum that includes blueprint reading, tool
identification and use, OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, Scaffold Basics, and Flagger
Safety & Traffic Control certifications, as well as job readiness preparation.
While most of the training is classroom-based, some hands-on instruction is
also part of the curriculum.  The class includes employability workshops as
well as individualized job development.  Case management services help ensure
retention in the program and on the job. The class is unpaid, but a small
weekly travel stipend is provided.
Program Eligibility: DC residents interested in applying to the Building
Futures class must:

  *   be committed to a construction career
  *   have a GED or HS diploma
  *   be healthy and drug-free (including marijuana)
  *   possess a valid DC ID (learner's permit or DL preferred)
  *   have Proof of Covid-19 vaccination
Background: The Community Services Agency of the Metropolitan Washington
Council is the non-profit arm of the local AFL-CIO that manages the Building
Futures program and has been providing worker-centered services since 1991.
Next Steps: Candidates should call me directly at (202)
974-8224<tel:(202)%20974-8224> to begin their application with a phone
pre-screening no later than January 20th to be considered for the class that
begins later this month.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.
Thank you,
Jennifer
