Commissioner Holmes,
Good morning and thank you for your inquiry.
* The speed limit is enforced by MPD. DDOT and MPD work closely on all
elements of traffic safety and Vision Zero, and DDOT will be sure to pass along
your concerns to our MPD colleagues, as they consider their enforcement
priorities.
* In the case of Eastern Avenue, in addition to MPD enforcement, there is a
speed camera (800 block of Eastern Ave in the eastbound direction).
* DDOT teams will soon be installing a driver feedback sign on Eastern
Avenue between Lee St and 51st St; Driver feedback signs show drivers what
their current speed is and flash when it’s over the posted limit. They’re a
helpful way to remind drivers to slow down – and have been proven to be
effective at reducing speed and crashes.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Charlie / DDOT Vision Zero

Good Evening Ms. Boderick,
What is the enforcement mechanism for this initiative? I am adding the Mayor’s

How will DDOT enforce this? The speed limit is posted on Eastern Ave and the
speeding is still out of control.
Thanks,

Subject: DDOT-20 is Plenty
Hello Ward 7 ANC Commissioner, Civic Association President, and Community
Stakeholder,
DDOT would like to invite you to Kenilworth Farmers Market and visit our table
to learn more about our 20 Speed Limit Regulations on Saturday July 17th, 2021
at Kenilworth Recreation Center located at 4321 Ord St NE Washington, DC 20019
from 9am-1pm. DDOT will also be providing 20 is Plenty Yard Signs to the
community.
What is 20 is Plenty?
The new speed limit in DC is 20mph, unless otherwise posted. Speed is directly
related to safety. Higher speeds make it harder for drivers to see others on
the road, and it takes longer for them to stop their vehicle. Crashes at higher
speeds are also deadlier.
What are Driver Feedback Signs?
Driver feedback signs show drivers what their current speed is and flash when
it’s over the posted limit. They’re a helpful way to give drivers a real-time
reminder to slow down – and have proven to be effective at reducing speed and
crashes.
