[ddots-l] wave form preview

What is the wave form preview? I must have hit a key inadvertently and it
is off. It must have something to do with the select F7 through F10 keys
because it is acting all gooffy when I try to select an area. I presume it
should be on instead most of the time. If so, how do I get it back on?
