I agree. I actually like the sound quality of alot of older synths alot more 
than the new ones.

  It seems to be, but I think this is more of a cost issue than a quality one.
  You could probably argue that there'll be no hardware synths in 10 years
  time (let's face it - modern synths are only computers with a custom user
  interface anyway). A good chunk of me is quite saddened by this, as I think
  some of the excitement has gone out of the offerings from the major
  manufacturers - half of the character of the vintage instruments was their
  quirky design and less than perfect components.  Having said this, the
  unreliability of the older kit used to drive me to drink (that's my excuse,
  anyway).

  right from within the daw, rather than external hardware synths. Is that
