You could try the user preferences dialogue?
Hit ctrl + U, then cursor down thru the list, and select the option you
fancy with the space bar...

Hi List,
When I hit ctrl and space bar to pause either recording or playback, jaws
gives me a lot of info, but, I don't really want that info at that moment.
How can I keep jaws quiet at this point, and if I want this info, is there
a hot key to tell me this stuff.
