Actually, I think the Line6 stuff has the edge on
the Tonelab when it comes to metal, especially
with the Metal Shop add-on pack which gives you
18 additional amp models for that style.  So
clean and heavy, Line6 does fine at least for
me.  The Tonelab really beats everything else
when it comes to bluesy or less extreme
overdriven or vintage tones, which isn't
surprising considering it uses a tube to simulate
a driven power section.
