I wish I had a spare minute to check it out, unfortunately, I teach music at Mercer University and we are just starting final projects. I remember I heard some of your music a while back on your website and loved it.

However, while not a 100% necessity, I do think that typically mastering is the way to go. The roll of the mastering engineer has changed a lot sense the days of Vinyl, however, while making the recording louder is the most obvious effect of mastering, it usually enriches the recording. like anything else, it can be over used to make the recording sound worse, I am in favor of mastering as a general rule of thumb. Of course, you also need to get a mastering engineer that knows there stuff. Don't make the mistake of trying to do it yourself if you don't understand it and don't let a buddy that is getting started in the field do it either, go to a reel mastering pro. In home or project studios, a process known as separated mastering can really help out in making the project sound like the big-boys. Basically, you do a stem mix of all the drum tracks, then all the guitar tracks, then the bass track, then all the vocal tracks... And they master and re-mix the stem mixes.

That is my 2 cents for what ever it is worth, good luck

Hello guys,
I just finished recording my CD Simply Hymn volume 2. This is the first CD that I have mixed on my own. My previous project was recorded by me in Sonar
and mixed some where else.

I have prepared a promo mix of all the songs to send to the people on my
mailing list. I'm wondering if someone would check this out for me and tell
me if these songs need to be mastered? I'm not sure they need to be
mastered, but then again I'm not sure what all that mastering involves. If you're interested in giving me some feed back, let me know and I'll send you
an attachment of the promo mix.
When I saved the promo mix in soundforge it did something to the audio I'm
not sure what, but I think you'll get the idea. Thanks much.

May the peace of God which passes all understanding gard your heart and
mind in Christ Jesus.

God bless you!
