Hi Ralf.

This is a CakeTalking bug. More accurately, this was a limitation in Sonar
prior to the new improved synth rack that we got in Sonar 8.5.

The old synth rack was very difficult for the scripts to access. Most all
information had to be directly scraped from the screen, and the built-in
keyboard navigation was very bad. Because of how CT had to manually work with
every slot in the synth rack, it wasn't possible to support any possible number
of synths. Instead, we had to pick a fixed number of synths, and code for all
of the possibilities related to exact screen positions and such for each of
those possibilities. A decision was made to support up to 14 synths. At the
time, supporting more than 14 would have taken a large amount of time, and so
we would have had to take a significant amount of programming time away from
other features to support additional synth slots.

The new synth rack is better in lots of ways. It isn't necessary for us to code
for specific screen positions anymore. You should be able to use many
softsynths (practically no limit). Unfortunately, in CT 8.5, part of the check
in the synth rack code is still present that prevented someone from using the
synth rack if more than 14 synths were present. Somehow, this got left in when
the synth rack code was rewritten for the new synth rack. I actually discovered
this problem a few weeks ago, and it won't be present in the next public build
of CakeTalking.

Until then, though, you won't be able to use any more than 14 softsynths in a
single project. There isn't a real good workaround. You can bounce a softsynth
to audio, and delete the softsynth from the project, thereby freeing up a slot
in the synth rack. As far as I know, though, that is about the only way to
manage.

Please be patient. We are finishing a significant upgrade to CakeTalking that
will provide far more than bug fixes.

Bryan

Subject: [ddots-l] big problem

Hi all
I'm working on the big project with 15 softsynths, but ... when I open the
sinth rack I hear only "refresh the synth rack. I can't make the automation in
one of the synths. What to do now?
