Hi Kylee,

I seem to remember that all that my brother did was to adjust recording and playback levels and that was that. For your home system, I presume that you will be using a software synthesiser like eloquence? I have an external synth so I can get by with using only one sound card, however, I know that you can use two sound cards, one for jaws output and the other for Sonar and ct. If you have a reasonbly modern pc you'll have an on-board sound card which should be perfectly adequit for eloquence.
Before you buy an M-audio card, check out some others. I've been told that the Edirol FA 101 fw is accessible for jaws users but, I had already purchased my M-audio and really couldn't justify a second expense.

I have a reasonably good little mixing desk made by Mackie, the 1202, I forget exactly how much it cost, round about 200 pounds stirling. It uses pots instead of faders, which I prefer.

Hope some of this helps

Thanks, Jim. Is there anything I need to get someone to do to configure it
better? When I got the thing, I just installed the software and plugged in
the USB. It's seemed to work well enough for SoundForge (though
occasionally it will set itself to 0 volume and I have to find someone to
set it back); and I don't know whether it's going to be the most suitable
for Sonar here at home, as I think I'll need a mixer of some sort, along
with a cheaper sound card for Jaws, midi interface and some kind of keyboard
(did I leave anything out?).

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Kylee

Hi Kylee,

I have had a M-audio fw 44-10 for the past two years and its a good card.
Like yourself I find the M-audio control panel completely inaccessible
with
jaws but once I got it set up with some sighted help, I've had no need to
change it. I believe there are software and firmware updtates to be had
but
I'll do that when I need to. However, I'm told that ederol sound cards
are
much more accessible.
