Ok, I found out the cause of the sluggish playback in Sound Forge 10.I still don't understand why Sound Forge is the only affected application, but here we go.
Problem Description: Playback takes up to 6 seconds to start in Sound Forge 10, when using one of Focusrite's Saffire Pro audio interfaces and Saffire Mix Control 2.4 installed.
Solution: Recently, Saffire updated its Mix Control application to version 2.4. That isn't the problem here. The cause of the problem is the updated firewire driver included with the latest version of Mix Control.
Go into Saffire Mix Control, bring up the Help menu, and pick About. If the information dialog displays the following, you will want to uninstall version 2.4 and reinstall Mix Control 2.2, available from the Focusrite Website.
Saffire MixControl 2.4 PAL base: 3.5.6 (11675) FW-Driver: 3.5.6.11675 Revision: 2422When you revert back to Mix Control 2.2, it willinform you of a newer version and ask if you want to get and install it. Say no!
With Mix Control 2.2 reinstalled, reconnect your Saffire interface, go into Saffire Mix Control, Help, and bring up About again. The dialog should read in part:
Saffire MixControl 2.2 PAL base: 3.5.3 (8786) FW-Driver: 3.5.3.8786 Revision: 1782Again, this seems to only be an issue in Sound Forge. Sonar, Winamp, Transcribe, and every other program I tried had no problems with the newer driver.
