Hi, I know that this is a radical suggestion, but it's served me well over 15 years of doing technical support. Why not wipe the machine and start again? OK, I know it's a pain, but it'll probably take you a day's work then you're up and running, as opposed to spending fruitless days/weeks trying to solve something really strange. It's not satisfying from a technical knowledge perspective, granted, but it'll get you productive a lot faster. Cheers. I continue to have the same problem. I took the CD and went to our other machine and it installed without a hitch-go figure. I won't be using that machine so I'll remove it. I wrote to the CakeWalk folks again so we will see what they say. I'll probably have to call them in the end. Thanks guys, Kim -----Original Message----- From: ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of hf Sent: Monday, March 27, 2006 2:04 PM To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Sonar 4 installation problem Very good, the Cakewalk people are pretty good about these things. Let us know how you make out. I just received a response from Cakewalk and they have suggested that I make sure that I am logged in on my computer with administrative rights, clean out the windows temp folder and make sure that antivirus is shut down. Well, as I have no users setup on this XP Home machine and I've been able to install other programs without any problems, I don't have an issue regarding admin rights. I will dump the stuff in the temp folder and though Avast antivirus was shut down and the application was running without doing anything but I'll make sure that it's not running at all. I'll try reinstalling. Also, I have another XP Home machine that I can try the install on and see if I get the same results. If all else fails, then I'll be lighting up Cakewalk and maybe Dancing Dots phones but wanted to make sure that I tried to troubleshoot this on my own before resorting to phone calls. Maybe there are files on the CD that's corrupted. Call the guys at dancing dots, ask them if you should call cakewalk, or they will. I think, in most cases, it would be best for you to call cakewalk, and provide them with your CD key, and let them deal with it. I have nothing against crack copies. Prosecutors do! (smile). Don't tell them that, but I started with sonar 1.3, and I didn't purchase it from cakewalk, nor dancing dots. I am not trying to say anything wrong about cracked copies; this is not my job, but if it is not the real thing, of course you may have these problems. Rod ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kim" <jbkim72@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, March 27, 2006 4:56 AM Subject: [ddots-l] Sonar 4 installation problem Hi all, First, I am new at this and am itching to get going but as you will see I am having trouble. I am using Win XP Home SP2 with all updates and all spyware and virus detection applications shut down with no firewall running. I reach a screen after making all the choices as to what I want to install and get a message telling me it wants to install Destinations.MSI and the source cannot be found. Here is what the screen says exactly. I used the JAWS virtualize current window for this. graphic 372 Destinations The feature you are trying to use is on a graphic 85 OKCD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Cancel Insert the 'Destinations' disk and click OK. Use source: 1 Browse... I have tried browsing the CD for the file location with no luck. I have done a search for the file with no luck. If I click the cancel button I get a Windows error 1706 that installation cannot continue and I have to click OK. If I keep clicking the cancel button eventually the installer will move on but I have to do this about 6 times and answer OK everytime to the 1706. This would seem to be something it is looking for on the CD. I've looked on the Cakewalk site and done a search with no luck. I've run the update from the Microsoft site and also have DirectX 9C and ran the DirectX utility. Has anyone come upon this problem? Has everything installed? If not what can I do? I've also sent a message to Cakewalk support as well.
