You are right, you do need to use sonar 6 with the v64. It really is a great compressor though.

Gord, have thought about it. However, from what I have read on this, the v64, doesn't have a brickwall limiter built into it. So, I would still probably have to use it, with everything turned off on Final plug, a part from the brickwall limiter.

Will need to look at the V64 some more though, as my initial thoughts are that it's a killer compressor. In a league of it's own.

Also, the songs on Translator's website, were mixed back in August, and I didn't have Sonar 6 then.

Finally, I think you can only use the version of the V64 that ships with Sonar 6, in Sonar 6.

Phil:
I'm suprised you haven't tried using the vc64 for mastering. It should work quite well, will probably try it myself now. I always use sound forge, with the wave hammer, but the vc64 may be a step up from that.

No, I didn't use Sound Forge for mastering at all. Just for applying fades. I did all of the mastering, from within Sonar. The only external plug-in that I used for mastering, was the Wave Arts Final Plug. I used the Sonatus EQ with my own mastering EQ settings which, I have made up over the main buss, and Final Plug, after that. I have my own mastering preset which, I have made up for Final Plug.

you can get the Wave Arts Final Plug from:

real nice I like it! So you didn't use sound forge at all for the mastering? What are some tips to mastering with Sonar 5? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phil Muir" <ddots@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi All!!

For anyone who is interested, you can listen to some tracks that I recorded here. The artist is called: "Translator." the tracks are on his website. You can
get there by using the following URL:

http://www.translator-songs.co.uk/

go to the "singles and albums" link. open that link then, scroll down to where it says:

Let Your Self Go (Album) - Released Aug 2006.

Below there, you will find a track listing for the album, plus some links to the tracks, that we recorded here.

My wife Sarah, did all of the backing vocals, on the track, "No Mystery." Translator took the lead vocal, and played the acoustic guitar that is coming out of your right hand speaker. That's the guitar, that goes right to the end of the track.

I played all of the other various instruments on the track, including the guitar, at the start of the track, that sounds like an Ebow. It isn't an Ebow, by the way.

I played all of the instruments on the track, "one More Time", a part from the 12 string acoustic guitar, and the shaker. Translator did both of those.

Translator, myself and Sarah, did all of the backing vocals on the track, "One More Time."

Finally, the track, "Down The Wire", features, Translator, on acoustic guitar and vocals.

I mastered the other tracks for his album here too. All of the above, were recorded at 24 bit, 44.1, mixed and mastered in Sonar 5, on a lowly system, running Windows XP, and a 1.6GHz, Athlon XP processor, with 512MB of SDRAM. Who says you can't kick ass with a slow
system!
