To be honest SADIE's only really worth looking at if your running a pro studio that needs rock solid stability for multitrack recording. Its about as high end as it gets. Abby Road use it and the BBC bought 500 systems, which says something I guess. It costs a bomb though. The "basic" 4 track system roles in at about £4000 and the 8 track £6000. They do a 64 track system which I don't even want to think about.

Its a kind of software/hardware hybrid, similar to ProTools but for PC and offering all the same features. It comes with its own audio interface card, different cards for different numbers of I/O, and the bulk of the processing is done on the card rather than by the PCs own processor, though you access it through software. They usually sell the system pre-installed on a fully configured PC rack unit.

I remember talking to one of the guys who use it at the RNIB and they said that they were basically using it as a recorder and editor for spoken word and that they didn't really use the advanced stuff like FX automation so I don't know whether the system is fully accesible in the true sense of the term.

Personally, if I had that much money I think I'd stick with a Red Sub and use the money for a good pair of monitors - very good in fact! (grin)

What are the essential differences between Sadie and sound forge. is it
simply a question of one being a hard ware audio editing tool using the
computer to control it, as opposed to sound forge which is just a software
aplication.

Yes, the RNIB do use SADIE. They asked the SADIE developer to implement
some changes and then had
an in house scripter script the application for Jaws. In other words, I
don't think that the
version of SADIE is exactly the same as the one you are using. Perhaps
the best thing you could do
would be to contact the SADIE developers and explain the situation.
Then, contact the RNIB and see
if they would release the scripts to you.

I don't know about scrypts but I know that the RNIB use SADIE for
producing the talking books and
one of the people who uses the system is blind. I have his contact
details around somewhere but I'm
snowed under with deadlines right now. If you can wait a day or two I'll
get back to you. On the
other hand you could just get in touch with them directly - or indirectly
as the case will probably
be.

Hi. I believe there was discussion on this before. My friend who is
totally blind and studying
audio production at West Minster needs jfw scripts. Are these available
somewhere?

Thanks,

  Cameron.
