To be honest SADIE's only really worth looking at if your running a pro
studio that needs rock solid stability for multitrack recording. Its about
as high end as it gets. Abby Road use it and the BBC bought 500 systems,
which says something I guess. It costs a bomb though. The "basic" 4 track
system roles in at about £4000 and the 8 track £6000. They do a 64 track
system which I don't even want to think about.
Its a kind of software/hardware hybrid, similar to ProTools but for PC and
offering all the same features. It comes with its own audio interface card,
different cards for different numbers of I/O, and the bulk of the processing
is done on the card rather than by the PCs own processor, though you access
it through software. They usually sell the system pre-installed on a fully
configured PC rack unit.
I remember talking to one of the guys who use it at the RNIB and they said
that they were basically using it as a recorder and editor for spoken word
and that they didn't really use the advanced stuff like FX automation so I
don't know whether the system is fully accesible in the true sense of the
term.
Personally, if I had that much money I think I'd stick with a Red Sub and
use the money for a good pair of monitors - very good in fact! (grin)

Yes, the RNIB do use SADIE. They asked the SADIE developer to implementsome changes and then hadan in house scripter script the application for Jaws. In other words, Idon't think that theversion of SADIE is exactly the same as the one you are using. Perhapsthe best thing you could dowould be to contact the SADIE developers and explain the situation. Then, contact the RNIB and seeproducing the talking books andif they would release the scripts to you.

I have his contactdetails around somewhere but I'msnowed under with deadlines right now. If you can wait a day or two I'llget back to you. On theother hand you could just get in touch with them directly - or indirectlyas the case will probablytotally blind and studyingbe.
