Hi Nevile, hope all is well, what you can do to solve this easily, is to 
invest in phome pads which are about 6 inches by six inches square.  There 
is a company depending on this size of your room which cells a in expensive 
kit which will solve all echo problems.

You can simpley put some velcro strips on your wall and put these phomes 
against the wall, and the kit also comes with baffles to block any ceeling 
echo reflections.
If I'm not mistaken the kit was about $700 here in montreal.
