Make a copy of the project, so you can have a backup if things go crazy.
Open the project in sonar 64, see what sonar tells you it can't load or is
missing, and then replace those synths/effects with the 64bit version (where
possible) and either select the preset you had for the 32bit version, or make
your settings match it. A quick way to do this is to open the synth in 32bit
sonar, and if it's a vst synth (not dx), you can save an fxp preset file and
import it into the 64bit version. This may or may not work, depending on the
synth, but for when it does work, it's a time saver.
For dx synths, I'm not sure of a quick way to do it, since even the 64bit
versions of the same synth have different id's, so sonar won't load a preset
for them if it was made on the 32bit version.
When switching over, try to stick to the vst versions of plugins (where
possible) so that you can even use them on other daws if you switch or add
later! A few cakewalk synths are not available as vst, like pentagone, psyn ii
etc, but these work under 64bit sonar; unfortunately as far as I know, dx
plugins are really no longer used, so that's why I'd say use vst, and when
installing a new one, if vst3 is an option, install it as well, as you'll never
know if you need it later. Not everyone has jumped on the vst3 band wagon yet,
but it's slowly making progress.

Subject: [ddots-l] Project conversion from Sonar Prod32 to 64

Hello all!

I have a project well under way in 32-bit Sonar I wish to switch to 64-bit. I
have already learned the soft synths will not work as is. What is involved in
converting?
Thanks much for any guidance.

Dave M
