You can check the level coming in on the input gain in Sonar by reading the metres in Sonar. That's how you check the level on the gain. You can go as high as minus 0.1DB. If you get a reading of 0 or above then, your into digital clipping. What Have I Done Now? Phil, I'm currently reading your document FW1884 For Dummies. Oh yea. I feel like a dummy. Ha ha! Anyway, I'm curious about something; how do you know what level the input gain is since there are no marks or no way to tell by feeling the nob how high or low the level is. If you turn the input gain down how do you know if you've turned it down too low. Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: Phil Muir To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, April 23, 2009 5:41 PM Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Oh Boy! What Have I Done Now? Aah, so it's a hardware issue. Meaning that it's possible to run the FW-1884 outside of Sonar as a stand-alone mixer. that would explain why the issue is not just occurring inside Sonar. What Have I Done Now? Yes to both questions (though it's been a while since I read that document. Guess I'd better read it again. This is why I don't like e-mailing to this list much because it seems like I get more questions than answers. I mean I've been trying all day long to figure out why I can't get my project to play as well as the cause of the feedback, and everybody seems to be stuck on the feedback issue. I'm not denying how important that is; it's important, but so is the other problem. And as I mentioned earlier both problems occured at the same time. Besides, is it normal for the microphone to be on when you first load sonar (especially when no tracks are armed?) Also, I've noticed that even when I'm not in Sonar if the speakers are on, the feedback is there. Whatever I did, I sure did a good job of it unfortunately. I just wish there was an easy solution for fixing both problems. ----- Original Message ----- From: Phil Muir To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, April 23, 2009 5:08 PM Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Oh Boy! What Have I Done Now? Have you tried turning the gain down for the channel on the FW-1884. Also, have you read the excellent document which is packed full of information on how to use the FW-1884 on my website that Sean Cummins and Herman Ferman helpped me put together? Here's the URL for it: http://www.philmuir.com/fw1884.html Regards, Phil Muir P J Muir Productions, Music And Audio Production Telephone: US (615) 713-2021 UK+44-1747-821-794 Mobile: UK +44-7968-136-246 E-mail: info@xxxxxxxxxxxx URL: www.philmuir.com/ ----- Original Message ----- From: Bobby Lusk To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, April 23, 2009 9:57 PM Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Oh Boy! What Have I Done Now? Okay. I turned the mic another direction, got back into Sonar, turned the speakers on, and guess what! Still getting the feedback, and I'm still looking for a solution to not being able to play my rpojects. Besides that, the feedback problem didn't occur until the other problem occured so I'm thinking the two problems are one. Mike mentioned in an earlier e-mail that this might be a Sonar bug. Well, I think he's right cause this is sure bugging me. ha ha! Trying to keep a positive attitude about this. God bless you. Yes. point your microphone the other direction, or disconnect it. If you don't understand that feedback is caused by the output going direct back into the input and then coming out of the output and going back in the input and then out the output and then back in the input and then out the out and in the in and out and in and out and in... etc. etc. etc. -- then you're violating a very basic concept of audio. You're generating feedback. Dave ----- Original Message ----- From: Bobby Lusk To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, April 23, 2009 1:11 PM Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Oh Boy! What Have I Done Now? Okay! I get that, but I still don't have an answer for why all of a sudden I can't get anything to play, and there's feedback when I turn on the spekars. Up until now, I haven't had that problem. Until the last few days I've been able to load projects, play, and record without the feedback. Now, this is a new thing that has happened, and it's really got me confused. Also, should I try to turn the mic another direction? Would that solve the feedback problem? Like I said, this is a new problem that has just occured very recently. God bless you, Dave. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dave Carlson To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, April 23, 2009 2:23 PM Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Oh Boy! What Have I Done Now? Is there any chance that this is just a plain old feebback loop? ----- Original Message ----- From: Bobby Lusk To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, April 23, 2009 5:02 PM Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Oh Boy! Don't know what the heck is going on, but it's really bugging me. I can't play (and certainly can't record,) and it's frustrating. Thanks for your sugestions anyway. Wish they would have worked. If it ain't that, then I can't be sure? Try hitting A 3 times quickly, this'll disarm all the trax... ----- Original Message ----- From: Bobby Lusk To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, April 23, 2009 4:24 PM Subject: [ddots-l] Oh Boy! What Have I Done Now? Hi, all. I have a problem that I'm not sure if I caused it or not; When I load a project in Sonar and try to get it to play, it won't. Instead, what I get is feedback from my speakers, and the microphone is turned on, which is weird because when I first load the project I don't have any tracks armed. Also, when I try to read the status bar, I get nothing. I don't know what's going on, but if anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance, and God bless you. Bobby Lusk.
