I strongly second George's comments below. We want to support and inform each
other in the use of products from Danncing Dots and related technology. Screen
readers qualify as related technology for sure. But let's talk about technical
difficulties not interpersonal difficulties or favorites. Loyalty is admirable
but, remember, there's a good reason why shops offer 24 flavors of ice-cream.

Perhaps we should institute the 24-hour rule on this thread. Write your
response, save it in your Drafts folder, read in the morning. It may not seem
as urgent to post after a few hours have elapsed!

To put it another way, we're much more interested in light than heat about any
topic that's appropriate for our list.

Bill

  Hi all,

I think we have to get this thread into perspective, and try to draw it to a
close.

First and foremost, this list is intended to support products sold and
supported by Dancing Dots - hence the ddots-l list name.

If you have a specific screen reader issue that relates to those products, we
will all do our best to try and resolve it. If that means involving the screen
reader vendors, then steps will be taken to try and resolve the issues.

However this is not a software bashing arena. As someone who supports or (at
least attempts to support) both Dancing Dots products, JAWS and many other
products, I find from experience that well over half the problems we get in a
week are actually system related. Drivers are old, the system is clogged up
with temporary files, insufficient memory, inadequately sized Page file, and
the list goes on.

There are thankfully specialist lists which deal with the more system-wide
issues of specific screen access products. JAWS-UK is just one example of such
a list.

So basically, can I please ask that a little discretion is used at least in
trying to establish if your crash is not only JAWS related, but linked to a
music related product supported here?

  Many thanks,

  George Bell
