Dave,

Just a quick warning - when I installed a new graphics card in my desktop I had to do all the graphics labeling in Sibelius again.

Yuck!

I don't know if the same is true for a laptop so you might get lucky.

Regarding dos and don'ts -
don't use an onboard adapter, instead get a dedicated 128MB adapter.

You shouldn't need a 256MB adapter. They're for gamers who need super dooper 6 dimensional high resolution graphics without which Mortal Combat 47 just won't look as good!

Oops! got a bit carried away there!

Well,

I've seen a lot of opinions and defensive maneuverings on this subject, and
a lot of dos and don'ts. I guess there's no such thing as a "video adapters
to avoid for Sibelius and Sibelius Speaking?

I'm not interested in any Sonar success or non-success stories -- just
Sibelius 3.0 with Dancing Dots' Sib Speaking 3.10 on an XP machine.

When I get back to work tomorrow I'll look at my Dell setup and get back to
you with the video adapter installed in my Dell Latitude so we can put this
matter to rest.

When consulting with Dancing Dots I was told that my spare Dell Latitude laptop (with XP Pro) would not work well with Sibelius because of the graphics incompatibility.

They were right (thanks, Gord).

Fortunately this is not my personal laptop but one from work. However I note
that JAWS works just fine, versions 5.0 through 7.1 beta.

I'm using Sibelius 3 with Sib Speaking 3.10 and JAWS 6.0, with resolution
1024x768 and 16 million colors, as specified. However The keypad will not
stay to the right and the graphics labeling is abysmal. Fortunately not my
main machine, just one I'm using for school/work.

What should I be aware of when I *do* purchase a new computer vis-a-vis the
video adapter/drivers/chipsets?

Do I avoid Dell at all costs?

Is this posted somewhere and if so, where? I'd expect to see a list of the
incompatible drivers/video.
