I will be purchasing sonar 8.5 producer in a few weeks and was wondering which control surface would be the best to get? Does the control surface control different elements of a soft synth such as the filters and other sound effects, or do you need something else to do that like a mixer? If you didn't buy a control surface would it be much harder to produce music in Sonar? Or would the control surface eliminate the need to learn hundreds of keyboard commands? Also, if you weren't happy with a pre set in one of the soft synths and you wanted to tweek it, how would you do that? Can you do that with the control surface or would you have to get a mixer? How big are control surfaces anyway, do they take up a huge amount of space? Also, if I get a control surface do I need an aditional audio interface or sound card to use sonar? or is the control surface the actual audio interface? I've heard of the control surface roland vs700 but are all control surfaces accessible with caketalking and jaws?
Any help with this would be much appreciated as I want to purchase the right equipment first and not having to go through a lot of trouble if I bought something, and then realise it doesn't work or it's not accessible, and since I still don't fully understand how a control surface works. I will also get onto dancing dots about this as well.
