XP hasn't been updated since 2004. Service Pack 3 was the last time any new
features will be released for XP. Security updates will continue to be released
for a few more years, though.

Thanks Bryan. With the release of w7, microsoft isn't planning to stop updating
xp anytime soon just to force consumers to upgrade, are they?

I have a swappable hard drive on my DAW, and so have both 32-bit
Windows XP and 64-bit Windows 7 available on separate hard drives.

About the only major benefit that I've encountered with Windows 7
64-bit so far is the well-known benefit of more memory available to plugs than
on XP. That's it. Nothing runs faster. 64-bit Sonar will definitely make a
difference in terms of speed, but that isn't available yet. Even the memory
isn't a big help to me at this point. It is rare that I use more than 1.8GB of
memory in my Sonar projects, and XP can handle that just fine.

If you're starting with a new DAW, then you should go ahead with 64-bit
Windows 7. However, unless you're a power user, or enjoy tinkering with techy
things, I'd suggest that most CT users not bother with upgrading their current
DAWs yet. There just aren't enough advantages for the typical user to justify
the headaches.

I definitely suggest that anyone with a DAW from Dancing Dots call us
to talk about your options before upgrading to Windows 7.

It's not a matter of 64 or 32 bit, jaws11 in general is average with
win7. People have reported driver problems with the video intercept, some of
which i've personally experienced. i've also experienced random crashes on
various machine configurations, both 32 and 64, using jaws11 and win7. This
didn't occur in jaws10, and jaws11 does sem to get stuck in certain areas of
the windows UI sometimes and requires a restart and/or a screen refresh to work
properly. This again is on various machines, not isolated to 1 single machine.
In terms of scripts, jaws11 is better, it actually reads the list views and the
selections, though be it a little buggy sometimes, it does support the system
tray function, the start menu and the new calculator amongst other things. But
the program itself seems a bit buggy to me on every day use... If you can deal
with those minimal issues, you should be ok. I must say however that the
research it feature is very handy to quickly lookup stuff...

        djx,

how would you actually rate jaws 11 with windows 7 64-bit? does it work
very well, or just average?

Yes jaws64 works under win7, jaws10 has somewhat limited support, while
jaws11 has better support, though it's kind of buggy... If you were to
use
jaws under windows 7 I'd recommend jaws11, that goes for 32 or 64
        platforms...

        Hi erik!

well, I
haven't tried it out yet, but I sure will do when I get money for
purchasing
        windows 7.
I'm running sonar 8.5 on an XP machine, and it's working great.
Oh, by the way. Welcom to the list, I'm Jörgen Hansson, from sweden as
