I don't think I have ever heard about drives without moving parts. What
kind of drives are these and are they more expensive than regular drives? If
so how much more expensive? What are the benefits to buying them?

May the Peace of God which passes all understanding guard your heart and
mind in Christ Jesus. God bless you!

I was interested in backup external drives to store the primary copy of my
first independent album. the session is in Pro Tools. that effectively
means I won't be able to use it. I just have to preserve it permanently.
so, I'm going to try and take Bryan's advice and get an external SSD on the
theory that a drive with no moving parts will last longer than a drive with
moving platters. I found a local electronics store that will install an SSD
in a drive enclosure that I can swap drives in and out of as required. they
sell Samsung SSDs. this should do the job.

thanks to everyone for their input.
