Multiple backups. Some backup software will let you make incremental backups every so often, which means that it will keep a certain number of backups. When that number is reached, the oldest backup is deleted. But keeping multiple backups on a couple of separate drives is good. I've even thought about keeping a couple of drives in a bank vault or something so that I could still get my data if there was some disaster like a fire or something.
