Also, don't forget that for every letter written or phone call received, companies government or whoever consider that letter to represent many people who did not take the time to write. To many people, each of those 100 letters might represent 10 or more people, most of whom felt the same way but didn't bother to express themselves.

Sorry, I don't mean this to sound so negative. I'm all for making manufacturers more aware of our needs. I'm just saying that maybe a hundred well-written letters might do more than one letter with 100 names tacked on at the bottom. Only my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions ...
