Wouldn't individual emails make more of an impression than some
endlessly-forwarded thing with a bunch of names tacked on at the
bottom?
Individual emails have to be delt with one at a time, whereas a
petition is still just one message, document, etc.

I think that is a great idea and you definitely have my support. What we might do is write one email and have all of us sign it...perhaps like a petition?
In any case, however we decide to pursue this, if we decide to pursue it, I think it is a great idea and is something that definitely deserves some serious time and attention.
