On this early autumn evening, the OHOA team is pleased to let you know that
the final 9 OHOA modules have been released and are available for the
community. To enroll and explore them, click on the Creator/Master category
and look for the newly published OHOA modules 19-27. Remember you need to
login to NCDB’s Moodle to see the beautiful contributions from our network.
OHOA Creator/Master Modules
When we began the journey in 2012, we knew that people needed a high
quality, free, multi-media educational resource to grow the intervener
practice and to increase knowledge at the local level for students who are
deaf-blind. Today, there are over 4900 people who have used the OHOA
modules and there are some incredible stories about the good practices that
are growing from the teams that use them. OHOA modules represent multiple
perspectives from our diverse network and we are proud to share them with
As we celebrate the contributions of many partners in this effort, the OHOA
team would like to share a special song, written by twin musicians, Crystal
and Danielle Morales of TheSynthFreq, who happen to be DeafBlind. The song
is written from the perspective of a young person who is deaf-blind, who
encourages their intervener and others in the world around them to
recognize that they have possibilities (audio described version and text
version of descriptions in the information on YouTube).
We would also like to share, that members of our team have been partnering
for the past two years with practicing interveners, state deaf-blind
project partners, and university experts to design and refine an
e-portfolio system that aligns with national standards of practice for
interveners. With our trusted partner at the Paraprofessional Resource and
Research Center at the University of Colorado in Denver, we are launching
the National Intervener Certification E-portfolio (NICE). To learn about
how NICE supports the recognition of quality intervener services, please
visit this link on the National Center on Deaf-Blindness site.
