I understand he has his mind on the one specific topic but it would be
wonderful if he would broaden or expand just a little.
Has anyone thought of contacting the media to come out and look at the day hab
and maybe do a story on it ?

I spoke with him about how schools are not prepared in advance for a
deaf-blind child that attends their school and that they need to be in with
the hearing-impaired group but it's not always prepared for them. That time
is lost while people get trained and yet it's not an environment conducive
for them to learn communication.
I also talked about the day hab here In Houston and how we created something
that did have an auditory instructor as the lead. That now we have created
an environment that a deaf-blind person can have a good supports for
communication and that it was the first of its kind.
He said he would keep all this as information to consider in the future but
that he's focused on a specific topic at this time.

I was just thinking that someone needs to talk with him about the
Cogswell-Macy Act and how it’d be part of the SOLUTION! (Just part of it,
probably. The bigger part would be the attitude.) I would be willing but
maybe one of you guys can just pick up a phone and call him...

Subject: Houston Chronicle seeking help with article on special education
I’m a reporter with the Houston Chronicle, and I’m writing in the hopes
that you can help with an article about special education in Texas.
Specifically, I’m writing about a Texas policy that has made it harder to
get into special education and easier to be prematurely removed from
services. I’m looking for parents of children with special needs who have
struggled to get evaluated and identified as needing services or who have
been prematurely removed from services.
I thought you might be able to help.
Can you? Please let me know.
Thanks a lot,
Brian M. Rosenthal
