Subject: Houston Chronicle looking for help with story on special education
Hello. Again, it's Brian Rosenthal with the Houston Chronicle, and today I'm
writing to ask for your help.
As you know, we are continuing to write about Texas's failure to provide
special education services to children who need them. We are pursuing a
variety of different angles off of that theme, and so I may come to you
multiple times this fall to ask for help looking in specific places.
I am based in Austin, and I don't even normally cover education. You are my
eyes and ears on the ground with years of experience working in and with
schools across the state.
Today, I am asking for your help in two different ways:
1. I am looking for children who have received special education services and
then lost those services inappropriately. This includes kids who got services
in a PPCD program and then lost services upon getting to kindergarten and
struggled thereafter. It also includes children who were in special ed
services, were removed from services, struggled and then were placed back
(I also am looking for school staffers who have seen the above situation take
2. I am looking for anybody with any connection to Laredo ISD. I mean
ANYBODY, including parents who children attend (or attended) a Laredo ISD
school; teachers who work (or worked) in a Laredo ISD school; and advocates
who work in the area.
If you can help with either quest, please let me know as soon as possible.
