Presentation Abstracts :

Oracle Application Express and Oracle SQL Developer, a Compelling
Combination for Database Development - Eric Rudie (Oracle Corp.)

Oracle Application Express (Oracle APEX) is a rapid web application
development tool for the Oracle database. Using only a web browser and
limited programming experience, you can develop and deploy professional
applications that are both fast and secure. Oracle APEX is a fully
supported, no cost option of the Oracle database. Oracle SQL Developer is a
free and fully supported graphical tool for database development. With SQL
Developer, you can browse database objects, run SQL statements and SQL
scripts, and edit and debug PL/SQL statements. You can also run any number
of provided reports, as well as create and save your own. SQL Developer
enhances productivity and simplifies your database development tasks.
During this session I will review the latest developments in each of these
powerful tools, give a brief demonstration of the functionality, and review
how they complement each other in the development process.

Shredding XML into Relational Structures using Oracle ? Dale Ward (Booz
Allen Hamilton)

XML is everywhere and is finding its way into the lives of database
professionals. That's actually a good thing. All too often, parsing and
processing of XML is left to mid-tier application developers using Java or
whatever else. Processing XML using SAX and DOM can be complicated and
slow, so wouldn't it be nice to have a SQL-based solution to the challenge
of XML? In this presentation we'll look at some new features of Oracle
10g/11g that harness the power of SET based operations and the Oracle
database to quickly and easily shred XML documents into relational table
structures using SQL. We'll also examine XML Schema validation of XML
documents and how the use of XML Schemas in the Oracle database can actually
enhance performance.

Consuming Web Services in Oracle ? Dale Ward (Booz Allen Hamilton)

The ascension of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) and the ongoing
proliferation of Web Services
has left some Database Professionals wondering where they fit in this new
world. The reality is that nothing has changed. The vast majority of
organizations wishing to engage SOA still (and will probably always) store
their data in an RDBMS like Oracle. In this session, we will look at some
capabilities and techniques that enable your Oracle database to reach out
and interact with both REST and SOAP-based Web Services. Specifically, we
will demonstrate simple SQL and PL/SQL techniques using UTL_HTTP and other
packages to consume web services and process data in a database context.

Oracle Business Intelligence Solutions, Where We?ve Been and Where We?re
Heading - Eric Rudie (Oracle Corp.)

Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition 11g (OBIEE) is a
comprehensive business intelligence platform that delivers a full range of
capabilities?including interactive dashboards, ad hoc queries, notifications
and alerts, enterprise and financial reporting, scorecard and strategy
management, business process invocation, search and collaboration, mobile
and disconnected analytics, integrated systems management and more. OBIEE
11g is based on a proven Web-based service-oriented architecture that
integrates with an organization?s existing information technology (IT)
infrastructure for the lowest total cost of ownership and highest return on
investment. OBIEE 11g provides complete, relevant insight to everyone in an
organization, resulting in improved decision-making better-informed actions,
and more-efficient business processes. During this session I will review
Oracle?s history in the business intelligence space, where we are today with
OBIEE, and the strategic direction as we move into the future.
