You probably have kerning turned on. The vertical positioning can only
be precise if you use tabs. So in your case you need 3 tabs: right,
centre and left:
...........R.......C.......L..................
<tab> text <tab> = <tab> more-text (ignore the spaces and full
stops, added for clarity)
Then both following examples centre on the = sign, depending of
course on how you set up the tab stops.
