The list is hosted on a different domain, so the spam-blocking systems
which are being rolled out will block it.
The list needs to change how it sends out its messages = from needs to be
the list's own address, with reply-to set as necessary.
As it is at the moment, messages from people whose email address is on the
list server will get to you, which the others will not.
I'm not sure that's quite right. Emails from people whose mail providers
don't implement SPF will get through; providers which do implement it can
prevent the recipient from accepting the mail. Virgin (BlueYonder) use this
information, so John won't see messages from an addresses which also
implement SPF (including himself, one assumes, since Virgin implement SPF).
But yes, the basic point remains: mailing lists need to be updated to handle
this new environment.
