I told it you.Once you start using *commands to control SparkFS then the front end (i.e. the bit that sits on the icon bar) becomes redundant. Or to put it another way the front end does not know that you have changed settings.
I suppose all this goes way back. Long ago people didn't have much memory and they wanted to use SparkFS without the front end.
