Yes it is a loader only.

If you have an option to save RTF then you must have MakeRTF installed.

As to the problems with the RTF - simple test is to try loading the RTF into something else. If it appears scrambled in something else then MakeRTF is at fault. If it appears OK then the new TransRTF is the problem.
