Mmnnn! Out of frustration because I couldn't fathom...
I copied the OvPro I have in 6.20 (doesn't error) over to the 5.23 where
it began to error.
I've checked that the sprite files in both are still identical, and they
are... In both the !AppDir and the app subdirs.
