Seems to me that "new format" sprites came along back about the
time of StrongArm.  To avoid headscratching, the term "new format"
could do with a subscript to indicate date, e.g. "new format
(2016)" as opposed to "new format (1996)", or to indicate machine,
e.g. "new format (Ti)".  Or some term more definitive than "new".

The official diferentiator is 'RISC OS 3.5' or 'RISC OS 5'.
