[softwarelist] OPro: "referencing" existing pictures

i have a document that has grown to 11 meg; it has become a bit
unwieldy. it has lots of pictures: most are not all that large, but
they are many. some are in fixed frames; some are in frames that flow
with the text.
would it make sense to turn them all into "referenced" pictures?
are there disadvantages?
if it's a good idea, is there a straightforward, mass way of going
about it, or do i have to do each picture individually?
