I regularly print almost full page pictures that I wish to be of the highest definition that the printer can handle. My printer will do 600 dots per inch and each dot in full colour. So for an image that is 7 inches wide by 11 high this sounds like 27,000,000 dots for the page.
But the dots in your document have 256 levels of brightness whilst those on your printer are 2 levels (on/off, dot or not).
You therefore have to trade off some of your spatial resolution (600 dpi) to generate some brightness resolution. This is done via dithering or half toning.
In other words a 27MB image is too big.ISTR there was once an article in Acorn Publisher that explained screening etc.
Obviously if PDF or similar can reduce the file size while maintaining definition, we are not talking of quite such humungeous files sizes. But OPro does not hold pictures internally in PDF format: certainly in Sprite format and what else?
JPEG That would give you some serious compression. -- David Pilling email: david@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Box 22 Thornton Cleveleys Blackpool. FY5 1LR UK fax: +44(0)870-0520-941
