Or keep your stuff on a proper file system - I wonder has someone decided the fastest file system for the Pi. SD card does not sound ideal in principle. My guess would be a network file system.
Someone should have started a magazine to cover all this stuff... I'm alluding to the parallels with the BBC Micro project and Beebug magazine.
